How to plant it

  • Plant 25cm apart. It sprawls into a loose frilly head rather than hearting up tight.
  • Pick outside leaves from about five weeks, or leave it to fill out and cut the whole thing at seven.
  • This is the one to plant when the weather is warming up. It holds far longer before bolting than anything else here.
  • Keep it damp anyway. Slow to bolt is not the same as happy in a drought.
  • The bronze tips come up stronger in full sun and fade out in shade, so plant it where you can see it.
